My New Toy!
I got a new toy! I went downtown yesterday and purchased a takli s
pindle! Isn't it cute? I spent the better part of the afternoon attempting to teach myself to spin on it. I think after about 3 hours my hands are starting to get the message. Its quite different than using a drop spindle, or a wheel, that's for sure. I am still making very thick/thin yarn, but I'm slowly seeing it become more even as I go along. With lots more practice, I hope to have a very even, very thin single for the Orenburg project. I'll spin the singles on the takli and then ply them on the wheel. The roving you see here is some cotton I found in the stash. I tried to spin a silk noil on it, but that was hugely frustrating to try and start with. The cotton was much easier. I need to be aware of how much spin I'm putting in it though, I either get too much and it breaks or too little and it breaks. Seems to me, that's another one of those practice things. What a good excuse to spend the afternoon spinning!!!
Not a whole lot more going on around here. Still working on the packing of the house. I may tackle some stuff in the kid's rooms today. I can get pictures and posters and such off the walls and packed up now. Also, I think that stuffed animals can get packed up now as well.
I found a neat book at our local library on their sale rack. Its called "The Complete Home Healer" and it has all sorts of nifty information on over 300 medical problems with listings under, homeopathy, aromatherapy, massage, accupressure, herbalism, and orthodox, just to name a few. Very interesting to read up on all the different treatments you can pursue! Good information to have on hand!
Time to run and get the day going! Bye Bye!

I really enjoy spinning my angora on my pear takli; silk bells and roving work pretty well for me, too. Haven't worked with cotton much. Nice new adventure for you!
I was thinking of using my angora on it, but didnt know if it would work since it has a long staple. I'll have to give it a try! I'll have to get some silk roving to try, since the noil didnt do squat.
