National Animal Identification System

Have you heard about N.A.I.S yet? This is a huge scary program that's being instituted by our wonderful government to protect you from what they consider disease carrying animals. This means your farm will have to be "registered" with the govt. and you will have to give them details of your location, type of animals, amount of animals, and, possibly, have your animals "chipped" for ease of tracking. In essence, you will have to have permission from the govt. to have animals on YOUR farm. Even if you have one chicken, you have to comply! This program will be mandatory in January of 2009. You will also have to pay for the privlidge of complying with this stupid program. You can read information on this here . Read the official govt. program and all that it entails here and here this last one is the draft plan they propose. Keep in mind that this fantastic program is being pushed thru by the giant agribusinesses such as Cargill, Monsanto, and others.

No one is exempt if you have any livestock animal! One horse, and your in. One cow, and your in. One chicken, and your in. This is a HUGE violation of mine, and YOUR civil rights. This is a HUGE violation of the fourth amendment of the constitution.

Do you feel that you should beg the permission of the govt. to have a pet horse, cow, or chicken?

I ask that you do all that you can to stop this dangerous program from completing its implementation. Write, call, fax, email your congressperson. And keep doing it. Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about this, and ask them to contact their congressperson too! Add your comments to their open comment period. Do everything you can to fight this!

Please fight this program!

It's just despicable, really. And the large producers won't have to register individual animals, just "lots". And Republicans were supposed to be in favor of "smaller govt". Phooey!

Good grief, just who is going to pay for the "animal police" to come check every chicken?

Liz, I thought all cattle would have to have an ear tag... I was skipping through alot of that for the horse stuff and I board so my farm would have to be registered.

Ha... don't think so. No Big Brother here... I will run a wayward home for unchipped horses, underground railroad kind of place.

NAIS, National. Asinine. Insane. Stupid.

I have setup a site NoNAIS.org to track NAIS and fight it. I'll be posting alerts, action items, news and articles there about NAIS as well as linking to additional resources, sites and blogs fighting NAIS. Please spread the word about NAIS so that people know just how bad it is and can fight it. NAIS may be good for the big producers as it will give them more export markets but it is horrible for small farmers, homesteaders and pet horse owners.
